Electret Ion Detector

These are really cool detectors. Firstly, you don’t need a lab for this type of test if you buy a relatively inexpensive reader. This test has a precharged element that loses its charge based on the amount of radon and the time that the electret is exposed to the radon. Using the formulas provided by the supplier of the electret, you can figure out the radon levels in the home. Another great advantage of these EID’s (Electret Ion Detector) are that they can be used for short or long-term measurements. The only concern is that you cannot touch the electret and you must make sure there is no dust on the electret.
