White Rhinoceros

by

One fascinating activity Gary created was the white rhinoceros test. He gave each participant a blank piece of white paper and asked us to draw a white rhinoceros. Once we were done, we compared our results. Of course, they were very inconsistent and poor quality. Next he showed a photo of the white rhinoceros and asked us to try again. This time the results were better but still relatively poor and inconsistent. Finally, he gave us a stencil to trace with the white rhinoceros and all the results were identical and high quality. Leadership requires that expectations are clearly defined. This exercise made that idea abundantly clear.
