Heat Loss/Gain is a Must

by

Today I made a sales call for a client who wanted a new furnace and air conditioner. Two other companies were there and suggested an 80,000 BTUH furnace and a 2.5 ton air conditioner. The client told me that they did not perform a survey and heat loss/gain calculations. Our standards for equipment sales require a full survey before any equipment can be suggested. Upon completing the survey and calculations, which takes around 1 hour, I found the house had a heat loss of 87,775 BTUH and heat gain of 36,652 BTUH. This customer needed a 100,000 BTUH furnace and 3-ton air conditioner. This is what i sold to the customer. It bothers me terribly that some companies just don’t care and will do anything to sell a job. Had I not been there and done the calculations, this customer would have been cold in the winter and hot in the summer.
