HELP!! Should I Lock In My Hydro Rates?

January 16, 2011

Hi There,

Sorry that I haven’t posted in a week but I was working on this great project that I am about to share with you.

I am always asked by my customers and friends if they should lock in their electricity rates with an energy retailer or if they should remain with Toronto Hydro and pay the spot rates. I usually answer that this is a good question to ask a commodity trader who is familiar with the futures markets. Recently, I decided to analyze this issue and try to find the right answer to this question.

After much research, I learnt quite a bit about how our electricity rates work and how to understand our billing structure. Based on all the information, I created an analysis tool to help you with your decision.

In my next few posts I will discuss with you all the issues and factors that affect how much you pay and then I will present my analysis tool.

Come back often to my blog and follow along with me on this interesting series.

Beware of Shoddy and Careless Workmanship

January 4, 2011

We were called by a new customer to investigate why their newly installed rooftop heat/cool unit was not heating properly. The customer found us on Homestars and saw our reviews and reputation as a good contractor. What we found truly amazed us. Right on the side of the unit there is a big label that says “This label must be removed” It was not removed and was starving the unit for combustion air. This caused the unit to burn itself. See the burn marks in the unit. The heat exchanger also suffered from this poor combustion situation. The second photo shows a heat exchanger that looks 10 years old rather than 3 months old. You can clearly see the hot spots and wear. It is so important to hire contractors who are well-trained and diligent to do quality work. Anyone who can read would have seen this label and removed it as per the manufacturer’s instruction.

I’m glad that we found this problem and corrected it for the customer.

Remember to call us for all your heating and air conditioning needs and we will always do the job right.

Google SEO – Getting to the Top of Google

January 2, 2011

I learnt many important factors that Google uses to rank your website.

One very important tool to use is Google Places. Google is just starting to place the websites  in Google Places before the search results. This means that if you don’t show up in places, you will be on the second page. When was the last time you selected on a link on the second page of Google?

Setting up a profile on Google Places is easy. I uploaded 10 photos, 2 videos and a coupon. Make sure that your profile is 100% complete. After filling out all my Profile, my website started coming up on the first page of a Google search. This tells me that google wants a full profile in places, so go do this for your website right now or leave a comment for help and I will help you.
